Celtic are set to enter a crucial phase of their season as games are going to come thick and fast and of vital importance. Europa League, Scottish Premiership and the League Cup all are on the line, and the club would need every ounce of their squad strength to come out triumphant from these tough fixtures.
However, they might have to make do without their experienced man in midfield, Scott Brown who is reportedly going to be out for a month with a knee injury. It’s still not a hundred per cent though as the club is also taking some second opinion about the possible return date, but as things stand, things don’t look good for the Hoops.
Brown was making a comeback into the eleven against the Hibs from a hamstring issue which saw him miss a few games. Rodgers would have thought that Brown’s injury issue has been resolved after he was chosen to play in the all-important match against Hibernian but things have again turned for worse.
They are mainly going to be hurt in the European competition as this could mean that Brown is going to miss both the ties against German outfit RB Leipzig. The first clash is on this Thursday with the return leg being on 8th November at Celtic Park.
The midfield general is an out and out Celtic man as he has been at the club since 2007 and has even rejected moves to English top flight to play for the Hoops. One often uses the term living legend to describe greats, but Brown can be termed as a playing legend as he has captained the side to seven consecutive Premiership titles including a host of domestic cups as well.
Brown might be 33, but he is still pulling strings in midfield for his side. His presence in the middle of the park makes a huge difference as someone like Olivier Ntcham would know that he can have that freedom to go forward as Brown would have his back while defending. The captain is in the final year of his contract, but there have been reports that the fan favourite would soon commit his future at the club. Not often one sees a club offering a contract to a 33-year-old but such has been his performance even at this age that the club cannot let him go.
In his absence, we believe Youssouf Mulumbu would fill in his boot, and the free summer signing has shown that he can be relied upon in the appearances he has made so far. The Hoops would be keeping their finger crossed that the knee injury isn’t too severe and Brown could return in action soon.
