According to the latest reports, Sunderland have joined the race to sign former Arsenal midfielder Glen Kamara. Reports also claim that Celtic are in the mix to sign this midfielder who currently plies his trade for Scottish outfit, Dundee. The 22-year-old was signed last season and has become the mainstay for his side in midfield. It is believed that Dundee could look to cash in on him in January given the high demand the midfielder is going to have as he is in the last year of his contract.
The Hoops have shown an interest in him along with fellow Glaswegian giants Rangers. Therefore it could be an exciting battle in January with some English clubs also in the mix. It’s believed that Kamara could sign a pre-contract agreement in January with any of the clubs with the 22-year-old moving to the respective club in the summer.
Celtic could be after a central midfielder in January as they targetted John McGinn in the summer. The move didn’t happen, and the Hibernian midfielder went on to join Aston Villa. The club then signed Youssouf Mulumbu for free, and the experienced midfielder has done well in limited opportunities he has got so one cannot be clear how strongly Rodgers is going to go after Kamara.
The 22-year-old is a more of a defensive midfielder as he is firm in his challenges and tackles. However, he has often been used in other positions like central midfield and even right back. So his versatility could be one of his attractive assets for the clubs vying for him. The Finnish international made just one senior team appearance for English giants Arsenal before he moved on to Dundee where he found his footing and has shown great promise.
Sunderland are looking to bounce back straightaway to the Championship, and they have shown good signs under new manager Jack Ross. Ross would have seen Kamara in action from close quarters as he was managing St. Mirren up until last season
Kamara made 46 appearances for Dundee last season and had indeed shown that he could handle himself in the Scottish Premiership. Maybe a move to Celtic might be appealing as he can also get a chance to play in the European competitions.
However, Sunderland can once again give him a chance to shine in England after he failed to break through at Arsenal. The Black Cats can also offer him more regular game time at the moment. The Hoops on the other hand have a decent amount of options for the central and defensive midfield positions.
