According to Sky Sports Germany, Borussia Monchengladbach Sporting Director Max Eberl has played down the German club’s interest in securing the signature of Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen. The Danish defensive ace recently indicated his frustration at being left on the fringes at West London which suggested that a switch back to Germany was on the cards for the Pensioners talent.
However, Monchengladbach has wasted no time in addressing the rumours as their sporting director Max Eberl recently revealed, “We’ve got a top central defensive partnership, with Mathias Ginter and Nico Elvedi.”
“Although we have some money to spend, I’ve heard that Chelsea will only sell Andreas if they allow him to leave, and the amount they will ask for is very large.”
Christensen’s Recent Struggles
Christensen was left out of the Chelsea match-day squad which faced off against Manchester United last weekend when the Blues came back from a goal down to equalise in injury-time which kept their unbeaten start to this Premier League campaign intact. However, the Danish centre-back has played every minute of Chelsea’s Europa League campaign so far while he was also part of the Pensioners team that emerged victorious against Liverpool at Anfield in the League Cup.
The Danish Centre-back’s Success In English Football
Christensen had previously spent two years on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, so it is no surprise that he is being linked with a return to Borussia-Park once again. Although, a bit inexperienced, the Danish international is a competent defender who knows what it takes to win at the highest level. He has already won the Premier League title and the FA Cup with Chelsea and has incredible potential to become a world-class defender in the near future.
What Should Be Sarri’s Play?
However, with the lack of first-team opportunities this season, it might be a wise move for everyone involved if he leaves the club in search of greener pastures. At 22, Christensen needs more game time if he wants to develop into a top-class centre-back in the coming years.
Maurizio Sarri can also use the money generated from his sale to strengthen other areas of his squad. Hence, the potential sale of Christensen makes sense for all parties which is why Chelsea should allow the player to leave in January when they can also bring in a suitable replacement.
