According to a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are monitoring the progress of Genoa forward Krzysztof Piątek and could make a move for him soon. It is being claimed that Barcelona director Ariedo Braida has recently caught the Polish striker in action and would continue to keep tabs on his development to find out whether Genoa’s whopping £44m valuation is justified.
Krzysztof Piątek: Player Profile
Piatek, who has been dubbed as ‘the new Robert Lewandowski’ in recent weeks, has set the Serie A alight with some majestic displays for Genoa this season. Since his £3.5m move from Cracovia earlier this summer, the Polish talent has made a name for himself in the Italian top-flight by scoring 13 goals in just eight matches across all competitions. He is currently leading the goal-scoring charts of Europe’s top five leagues which goes on to show how well he has adjusted to life at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
Piątek began his playing career back at his homeland of Poland before working his way up to the Polish first division. He secured a move to join Genoa earlier this year and has now established himself as a striker to look out for in European football. The 23-year-old has already earned two international caps for the Polish national team so far due to his excellent form in Italy during this campaign.
The Future Is Bright For The Polish Talent
The Genoa prospect scored his first international goal against Portugal last week, but it was not enough for his side to avoid defeat on the night. Now that he has announced himself at the international stage in grand fashion, it is expected that he will feature more for his country as Poland prepares to face off against the Czech Republic next month.
What Will Piatek Add To Valverde’s Team?
Piatek has a knack for taking up right positions to score and is also quite capable in the air which makes him a fox inside the opposition box. He has a commanding presence up top and is very quick in 1v1 situations as well. The Polish striker is often clever with his movement and has taken his opportunities well in front of goal this season. However, one could argue that he has just hit a purple patch so the jury is still out on whether he can score goals on a consistent basis over a prolonged period.
Valverde will do well to capture his signature as he will be a perfect back-up to Luis Suarez at the Nou Camp.
