According to a recent report by TalkSPORT, Barcelona are hoping to secure the services of Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno when the transfer window reopens in January. It is believed that the Catalans are looking to bring the Reds defender to the Nou Camp as they want a suitable replacement for Jordi Alba, who could be on his way out of Barca during the winter transfer period.
Moreno has been a sporadic feature in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team over the past year and has hardly seen any game time for the Merseyside club this season. The Spanish full-back had only made one appearance for the Reds this season when he featured in the 2-1 League Cup loss to Chelsea at Anfield last month.
The 26-year-old has made a string of high-profile errors during his Liverpool career which has helped Andrew Robertson break into Klopp’s first-team and replace him at left-back. Despite showing a lot of promise going forward, Moreno is far from reliable defensively which is why he now finds himself on the fringes of the Reds squad.
The Spanish talent is incredibly fast and is a good dribbler with the ball. He can also link up play well in the final third and can score an occasional goal from a distance if things are going well for him on the pitch. However, he is a big worry while defending his own goal and has an unfortunate habit of making rash decisions in critical moments which could potentially turn the tide of a match.
Liverpool would do well to get him off their books while a move to Barca might also be an attractive proposition for Moreno. The Spaniard will benefit from playing football in the La Liga, which is a far less intense and physical league than the Premier League. The 26-year-old will also offer a lot more to Ernesto Valverde’s team as his pace will be a big weapon for the Catalans going forward.
All in all, Jurgen Klopp should jump at the chance of selling the Spanish left-back as it is high time that Liverpool gave up on him and brought in a better defensive player at left-back.
