According to a recent report by ESPN, Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey will consider making a switch to one of the Gunners’ top six rivals next summer. It is believed that Chelsea are one of the clubs hoping to secure the services of the Welsh international whose contract at the Emirates Stadium is set to run out at the end of this campaign.
With the Arsenal midfielder set to become a free-agent soon, it will be an ideal opportunity for the Pensioners to acquire someone of Ramsey’s ability for free and so this move makes sense for both the player and the club. However, for the Gunners, it would once again be an all too familiar story with another one of their first-team stars deciding to leave on a free transfer.
The North London giants have seen both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez depart over the past two transfer windows and Ramsey’s departure could further put the club under jeopardy of missing out on the top 4 next season.
Maurizio Sarri’s men have made an excellent start to their league campaign and are yet to be beaten in the Premier League so far. The trio of Ross Barkley, NGolo Kante, and Jorginho have worked well in midfield while Mateo Kovacic has also impressed during his outings at Stamford Bridge.
The potential acquisition of Ramsey will undoubtedly add more quality to the Chelsea midfield, and at 27, the Welsh sensation still has a few good years ahead of him which the Pensioners could look to benefit from in the coming seasons.
What Will The Welshman Add To Sarri’s Team?
The Welsh international is one of Unai Emery’s best creative midfielders at the North London club. He is a willing worker for the team and can dribble with the ball effectively as he looks to set up his teammates inside the opposition penalty area. Despite scoring just once this season, Ramsey has acted as a facilitator as he notched up three assists in 9 matches across all competitions.
Ramsey will add a lot of goals and assists from midfield if he ends up sealing a move to Stamford Bridge. However, with so many midfield options already at Sarri’s disposal, there is also a possibility that the 27-year-old could find himself on the bench.
Should The Pensioners Sign Him?
Chelsea should do everything in their power to secure the signature of the Welsh talent, and with no money involved in the transfer, it is an absolute no-brainer for the Blues of London.
