According to Portuguese news outlet, A Bola, Wolverhampton Wanderers agreed to pay a £16m fee to Sporting CP for the Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio. The 30-year-old goalie came to an agreement with Sporting to mutually terminate his contract following the attack by supporters on the club’s training ground earlier this summer. He sealed a move to the Molineaux Stadium before the start of this campaign and now, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side needs to pay a compensation fee to the Portuguese club to resolve the dispute for one of the Portuguese national side’s most experienced players.
Early Signs Are Encouraging
Patricio has settled into English football quite well after letting in just five goals in four league matches so far. He has already made a few world-class saves to help his new team make a steady start to this Premier League campaign. The Portuguese shot-stopper earned his first clean sheet for Wolves in the previous gameweek when Nuno Santo’s men beat West Ham United with a 1-0 scoreline.
The Sporting CP academy graduate has already proven his worth and could become one of the main stars at the Molineaux in the coming months if he can continue his excellent form in between the sticks.
What Does Patricio Add To Nuno Santo’s First-Team?
The Portuguese international came in with a wealth of experience in European football and is also a leader in goal for the West Midlands club. Patricio has earned 73 international caps for Portugal during his career and was a part of the famous Portuguese national team who won the 2016 UEFA Euro Cup.
He has all the traits of a good goalkeeper and is well balanced in every aspect of his game. He has excellent reflexes, and his distributions skills are also up there with the best keepers in Europe. The West Midlands outfit has undoubtedly gotten an outstanding player at the back. It could go a long way in helping them make an impression in the Premier League at the end of this campaign.
Is The Portuguese Keeper Worth £16m?
In today’s inflated market, it feels like a bargain deal for Wolves to secure the services of the Portuguese sensation for a mere fee of just £16m. He will add a lot of experience to Nuno Santo’s young squad who are playing an entertaining brand of attacking football this season.
