According to a report by TalkSport, Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a big blow ahead of the crucial UEFA Champions League clash against Barcelona next week. It is understood that Dele Alli has sustained an injury while in training on Friday which could keep him out of action for around a month.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have made a mixed start to this campaign and are in need of a run of favourable results so that they can get their season back on track. Alli has played an instrumental part in their recent success and would be a big miss over the coming weeks with Spurs set to face off against Barca on Wednesday night in a game which could shape up their European campaign.
The English midfielder recently had a spell on the sidelines which hampered Tottenham’s performances on the pitch. However, his return last weekend saw Spurs earn a crucial 2-1 win away at Brighton & Hove Albion while he also captained the North London outfit in midweek when they knocked out Watford from the League Cup on penalties.
Tottenham have won five and lost just one match with Alli in their team which goes on to show how important the English sensation can be for the club. He will be a significant loss for Spurs if Pochettino’s other stars fail to step up when the pressure is on them to deliver.
What Does Alli Bring To Pochettino’s Team?
The English talent has a habit of scoring and creating goals on a consistent basis and has developed a great understanding with Harry Kane in the final third. Alli can dribble with the ball out of tight areas and is quite useful while operating in and around the opposition penalty box. The Tottenham attacker has scored two goals in 6 matches under Pochettino this season which proves how big of a miss he would be for Spurs in the coming weeks.
Can Tottenham Cope With Alli’s Injury?
With Heung-min Son available for selection once again and coupled with the fact that both Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela are in red-hot form this season, all might not be doom and gloom for Tottenham at the moment. Pochettino has a plethora of options at his disposal despite Alli’s recent injury which would soften the blow for Spurs.
