Celtic captain Scott Brown recently gave an interview that suggested that he was close to agreeing on a new contract at the club. The 33-year-old has entered into the final year of his contract, and therefore it was imperative for the Hoops management team to secure the deal for his future. The Scotsman seems to be getting better with age as he continues to impress in the central midfield role even though he is slowly getting into the wrong side of the thirties.
Brown was recently quoted as saying,”Me and the club we are speaking. There is no problem between myself and the club. They know I’m going to sign. There are no issues whatsoever. It’s just a matter of time for us to get it done.”
“We first started talking just before the international break. It will be done in the next couple of weeks hopefully. I still feel I’ve got a good few years left in me. That will be part of the discussion. I think two or three years easily. I feel fit and I feel good.”- he added further.
Young midfielders who were waiting on the sideline to get an opportunity into the first team might have to wait further as Brown is extremely likely now to commit few more years at Park Head after he said the new deal is just a matter of time now.
Having joined the club from Hibernian FC in 2007, the midfielder has won 8 league titles and a total of 16 significant honours since he joined the Glaswegian outfit. His trophy hunt is likely to continue this season as well, as the Hoops look ever so dominating.
Brown’s experience in midfield is one of the primary reasons why this Rodgers’ side edges past their opponents. The 33-year-old is a brilliant reader of the game and knows when to step up on the gas, when to make cynical fouls, when to fall back deep and defend, and when to press high up.
When he was young, there was a certain kind of rashness in his game but with experience, he seems to know what he needs to do in every situation and that rubs onto other players as well. His partnership with Olivier Ntcham looks formidable and as long as the opponents don’t find a way to break those two down, the Bhoys are set to dominate the league once again.
The midfielder showed his class recently in the derby against Rangers. Even though he was booked early, he made sure he didn’t make any rash challenges. Alfredo Morelos tried to get into an altercation with him, probably trying to get him booked the second time, but the captain kept his cool and guided his team to a narrow victory. Though he is 33, Brown doesn’t seem to show any signs of stopping and getting him to extend his deal is a no-brainer for Rodgers.
