Manchester United will go head to head with Valencia at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, hoping to bounce back from a humiliating away defeat versus West Ham United last weekend. Jose Mourinho’s side are currently going through a mini-crisis after suffering two successive losses over the past week. The Red Devils have been average at best defensively, while they are also shooting blanks on the other end of the pitch.
Mourinho is expected to make some changes to his team for this European clash and might opt to revert back to a 4-3-3 formation in midweek.
4-3-3 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Valencia
Defence
David De Gea will retain his spot in goal for the Red Devils after shipping in three goals against West Ham United last weekend. Sergio Romero is expected to start on the bench and play second-fiddle to the Spaniard.
The central defensive pair of Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling will continue their partnership at the heart of Mourinho’s defence after a disappointing showing at the London Stadium while Luke Shaw is expected to start at left-back for this European encounter. The club captain, Antonio Valencia might feature ahead of Diogo Dalot and Ashley Young in United’s first-team as he looks to put on a tireless shift in the right side of Mourinho’s backline.
The Red Devils have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last three matches in all competitions, so they need to perform much better defensively if they are to earn a positive result against Valencia.
Midfield
United could line up with Nemanja Matic in midfield while Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini will operate alongside the Serbian midfielder at the centre of the pitch. The trio would be up against a Valencia midfield brimming with talent with the likes of Dani Parejo, Denis Cheryshev and Geoffrey Kondogbia all set to feature at Old Trafford in midweek.
Attack
The Reds of Manchester could start with a frontline of Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, and Jesse Lingard. Lukaku’s form has taken a significant dip in recent weeks while both Sanchez and Lingard were dropped against the Hammers last weekend.
One of them needs to fire versus Valencia, or else United could suffer another disastrous defeat in front of their loyal home supporters on Tuesday night.
