According to the latest reports, Liverpool are interested in bringing Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey to Anfield. Ramsey’s contract negotiations with his current club Arsenal have reached a dead end. It is believed that the Gunners have given up on tying him to a new deal and they are ready to lose him either in January or for free in the summer. Ramsey will soon be 28, and it is believed that he wants a significant wage raise, which the Gunners aren’t too keen to offer. Maybe the manager Unai Emery feels that providing such salaries to a 27-year-old might sell the wrong message to other players at the club.
It is believed that Liverpool even put in a bid for the Welsh international in the summer which was rejected by the North London club. Clubs like Chelsea, Juventus and Manchester United have shown interest in him, but maybe Ramsey might be tempted to play under someone like Jurgen Klopp, who has built his side around players playing an extravagant brand of football.
Liverpool strengthened their midfield in the summer by bringing in the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho. But one cannot say the Reds added more depth to their squad by bringing in these two signings as Emre Can left the club and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain was already ruled out for the full season. Therefore Klopp lost two players in midfield and brought in two in the summer.
It would be interesting to see if Klopp goes for a player like Ramsey as Liverpool have not shown too much interest in players on the wrong side of their twenties. The Welshman is a terrific box to box player and one can see him thriving in Jurgen Klopp’s system. Ramsey is known for his link-up play and his late runs into the box, which are often tough for defenders to mark.
The midfielder has the knack of scoring goals and last season under Arsene Wenger; he managed 11 goals and 12 assists in 32 games. Along with that, the Welshman is versatile enough to play in different roles in midfield, and he would slot in perfectly at Liverpool. Arsenal would hope that there are some sizeable bids in January as that would soften the blow of losing him on a free at the end of the season.
If Ramsey is looking for a big payday in the latter years of his career, Liverpool are highly unlikely to provide him with more than what Arsenal would have offered him. But if the Englishman is looking to continue his stint in England and doesn’t want to move to Italy or Spain, then Liverpool might be his best destination next year.
