Rangers’ star striker Alfredo Morelos was recently picked for his national side Colombia, and he seems to be climbing up the ladder slowly. His performances for the Gers have been impressive, but that also means Steven Gerrard would be concerned for the long-term future of his striker. There were reports in August that the striker drew interest from a major Turkish club, but the manager was able to convince and keep his star striker at the club. However, recently Morelos claimed that he dreams of playing in the Premier League.
He said, “I dream every day of playing in the Premier League. I want to improve in each training session so I can get there. Steven Gerrard has been terrific for me. It’s motivating for me to have someone like him as a manager when you look back at what he’s done in his career. He starts me every week and although sometimes I lose my discipline a bit when I get angry, he helps me a lot.”
”He has helped me grow as a player and as a person. Last year I had a good season and I have started this one well too. I am happy with our new manager and I am enjoying life at Rangers. It’s because of my form at Rangers that I was called up for the national team. For two years now since I moved to Europe, I have dreamed and worked for this.”- he added further.
Since his arrival, the forward’s record at Ibrox has undoubtedly been impressive, as he has managed 24 goals and ten assists in 56 appearances. Last season also, he was one of the lone shining stars for the team, and that is the reason why he survived the massive summer overhaul. He remains an integral member of this almost new team.
Gerrard would hope that he can continue to impress and also add a bit of maturity to his game. However, his top class performances would certainly create headlines around the world and teams across the globe could test Rangers’ resolve to hold on to the player. Interest from a Premier League club is going to turn the 22-year old’s head, and in that case, Gerrard might have to let him go.
Hopefully, something like that could be put on hold up until the next season at least. The winter transfer window is going to be a crucial one, but we expect Gerrard and Co to keep hold of him. There have been talks of a new improved contract for the player which will extend his stay up until 2022.
Gerrard made it clear that only a substantial offer would make him sell the player. However, if there is an interest from a Premier League club, Morelos can create a ruckus to leave the club on a sour note. Maybe winning some trophies this season at Ibrox might help in keeping hold of the player in the long run.
