Manchester United hosted former Championship winner Wolves at Old Trafford. Nuno Santo had previously played under Jose Mourinho when he was the manager at Porto, but one has to say the student was able to win the duel as Wolves came off with a well-deserved point.
United had gained some momentum after their loss to Tottenham Hotspur, but this result will again put the pressure back on Jose Mourinho. Wolves never looked like they were overawed by their opponents and matched them pound for pound. In the end, United didn’t do enough to get all the three points.
This how the Red Devils fared against Nuno Santo’s side.
David De Gea 8
Was outstanding as usual as he made some crucial saves in the first half to keep United level in the game. Couldn’t have done much for Joao Moutinho’s goal.
Antonio Valencia 5
The Ecuadorian was decent defensively but struggled to conjure up anything meaningful while going forward. Maybe sticking with Ashley Young on the right will be the better option for Mourinho.
Chris Smalling 6
Decent performance from the Englishman as he timed his challenges well. Having started the season on the bench, Smalling is now the prefered choice centre-back.
Victor Lindelof 5
The Swede has looked shaky throughout his stint at Manchester United and this afternoon wasn’t any different. Raul Jimenez and Helder Costa did a lot to trouble him.
Luke Shaw 5
The former Saints defender has been one of the standout players so far but tonight was an off day for him.
Fred 6
The Brazilian had an average game overall in midfield. Scored with a neat finish and could have added another from a free kick but was denied brilliantly by Rui Patricio.
Marouane Fellaini 6
Like always, he was a disruptor on the pitch and often played in deep positions. A decent outing for the big Belgian.
Paul Pogba 6
His pass to set up Fred’s goal was deceptive but could have done better in the build-up to the goal which his side conceded.
Jesse Lingard 6
The only bright star in the attacking half of the pitch as he played with passion and pressed the Wolves defenders often. Looked lively whenever he had the ball at his feet.
Alexis Sanchez 4
The Chilean’s problem in the United shirt continues as he was miserable in the final third. Often made the wrong call when he had the ball in good positions.
Romelu Lukaku 4
Didn’t get much service throughout the game and was left isolated. However, he was stagnant on the pitch on quite a few occasions when he could have made some runs in between the defence.
Substitutes
Anthony Martial 5
Couldn’t affect the game after replacing Sanchez.
Juan Mata N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
Andreas Pereira N/A
