Manchester City are plotting a move to secure the services of Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski at the end of this season. According to Calciomercato, as reported by Sports Mole, the Citizens are eager to seal a move for the Polish international next summer. The 24-year-old had recently penned a new long-term deal with the Serie A giants which reportedly has a mammoth £107m release clause.
Does Man City Need A Player Like Zielinski?
Pep Guardiola has currently got a plethora of midfield talents available for selection despite Kevin De Bruyne’s recent injury. City are well-equipped in the midfield department but could still use another fresh face coming in next summer to add more competition for places within the Citizens squad.
Guardiola would be aware that he needs to bring in a long-term replacement for Fernandinho next summer. The Brazilian international has been a great servant for the Mancunian club over the past few years. However, he is about to head into the twilight years of his playing career and could be sold at the end of the current campaign. Hence, bringing in a player of Zielinski’s quality will give the Citizens team a huge boost and will also soften the blow of losing Fernandinho.
What Will The Polish Midfielder Add To Guardiola’s Team?
Zielinski boasts good pace and can dribble with the ball from midfield which makes him one of the best box to box midfielders that the Serie A has to offer. He also has a keen eye for goal and can distribute the ball well while operating at the centre of the pitch.
The Polish sensation would add more goals and creativity to the City midfield but won’t be able to provide the same defensive cover that Fernandinho can offer. The 24-year-old also needs to develop his strength if he wants to be a success in English football.
Should The Citizens Make A Move For Him Next Summer?
Zielinski could be a great midfield option for Guardiola to opt for, but only if he is available for a reasonable price. If City decides to pay his massive buyout clause, then they would be paying way over his value. Hence, it would make more sense for City to play the waiting game and sign the Polish international for the right price at the right time, even if it means that they could potentially risk losing out on his services.
