Tottenham Hotspur will take on Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium this weekend hoping to build on their league win versus Brighton & Hove Albion. Spurs are expected to have too much firepower for the Terriers, who look like they are in for a tough Premier League campaign this term. Mauricio Pochettino might make a whole host of changes for this clash after resting a lot of his first-team players against Watford in midweek.
The Tottenham manager is expected to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation and might name a strong Spurs team for this league encounter.
4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Huddersfield Town
Defence
Michel Vorm would play as the first-choice shot-stopper once again in Pochettino’s first-team as the club captain Hugo Lloris is still out of action due to injury. The Belgian defensive duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen is expected to continue their partnership at the centre of the Tottenham backline.
Kieran Trippier will return to Pochettino’s starting XI after being rested against Watford in the League Cup while Danny Rose should also resume his left-back duties against the Terriers.
Pochettino’s defenders have been a subject of a lot of criticism following their failure to keep a clean sheet in any of their past five matches across all competitions. They have also shipped in 9 goals during that time which is simply not good enough for a club of Spurs’ stature.
Midfield
Pochettino might start with the midfield pair of Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele as they would sit deep and operate as the holding midfielders. They will be responsible for protecting the Tottenham backline while also providing some support to the attackers in the opposition half.
The terrific trio of Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Lucas Moura would be deployed ahead of them as part of Pochettino’s attack. Moura has been in outstanding form for Spurs this season. However, the Brazilian speedster has not found the back of the net in any of Tottenham’s last four matches in all competitions.
On the other hand, Erik Lamela is the most in-form Spurs player at the moment after he scored three goals in his last four outings for the North London club. The Argentine is expected to start on the bench once again and come on during the match if required.
Attack
Harry Kane will once again spearhead the Tottenham attack as he looks to regain some form up top. The English forward needs to score some goals if he wants to be back to his best before the crucial contest against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League next week.
