Chelsea will go head to head with Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night after only managing to come away with a point from their Premier League clash against West Ham United at the London Stadium yesterday. The Pensioners would now face-off versus the Reds in back to back matches so the midweek encounter at Merseyside could serve as a dress rehearsal for the Premier League contest at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Maurizio Sarri is expected to go for a 4-3-3 formation and might hand some of his fringe players some game time in his starting XI.
4-3-3 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Liverpool
Defence
Willy Caballero should make a rare start in Sarri’s first XI for this League Cup match against the Reds. The Argentine goalie has patiently waited for his chance and would be ready to start on Wednesday night. The 36-year-old has a wealth of experience of playing at the top level and so he won’t have any problems starting in goal for the Pensioners in midweek.
The defensive pairing of Andreas Christensen and Gary Cahill would line up at the centre of the Chelsea defence while Davide Zappacosta plays as a makeshift left-back. Victor Moses could start as the right-back and use his blistering pace going forward.
Midfield
Sarri could opt to bring back Cesc Fabregas in midfield as he has completed a full recovery from his injury. Both Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater might start alongside the Spanish midfielder at the centre of the park. The trio would need to perform well under pressure of the home crowd and establish Chelsea’s dominance in the contest.
Attack
The West London outfit are expected to line up with a frontline of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Alvaro Morata and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. All three attackers have been subjected to limited first-team chances so far this season, so this encounter against Jurgen Klopp’s side could serve as an ideal opportunity for them to showcase their talents and stake a claim in Sarri’s first-team to start on a regular basis.
Both Olivier Giroud and Pedro could start on the bench for this clash at Anfield.
