According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are among a whole host of clubs monitoring the progress of Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. The Reds have sent scouts to catch the promising shot-stopper in action for the Eagles this season.
Odysseas Vlachodimos: Player Profile
The German talent was born in Stuttgart and started off his career in football while playing for VfL Stuttgart-Wangen Jugend. He managed to work his way up the youth ranks soon and eventually graduated from the Stuttgart Academy. Vlachodimos played for the club’s Under-17 and Under-19 sides before being promoted to play for VfB Stuttgart II in the summer of 2012. He had made 68 appearances for the club’s second team, conceding 96 goals while keeping 18 clean sheets across all competitions.
The German keeper caught the eye with some solid displays in goal and was soon given a chance for Stuttgart’s senior team in 2014. However, he only managed to feature in 3 matches and conceded eight goals during that time. The Stuttgart-born prodigy was released by the club and was picked by Panathinaikos Athens as a free agent at the start of 2016.
During his time in Greece, he made 63 appearances, conceding just 45 goals while earning 34 clean sheets. His improved record at Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium helped him secure a move to Benfica earlier this summer where he has started off on a promising note.
Vlachodimos has already featured in 10 matches for the Portuguese giants, conceding just eight goals while keeping four clean sheets. His performances for Benfica in the UEFA Champions League has especially been sensational.
What Will The German Goalie Add To Jurgen Klopp’s Side?
Vlachodimos has represented his nation, Germany at every youth level from Under-15 to Under-21. He is an exceptional talent who is known for his excellent reflexes and diving capabilities. The German sensation is also pretty good with his positioning in goal but needs to work on his ball handling and distribution skills if he wants to become a top keeper in European football.
Is He The Right Fit For The Merseyside Club?
He would be a perfect back-up to Alisson Becker at Merseyside so Jurgen Klopp should consider making a move for him in the near future. Vlachodimos has all the talents to become a fantastic keeper if he can continue with his development and fulfil his incredible potential. If given a chance to prove his worth in English football, we could see the best out of the German talent under the stewardship of Klopp who might be the ideal man to get the best out of him.
