Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Watford at the Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night hoping to build on their recent 2-1 away win at Brighton & Hove Albion. The Hornets managed to get the better of Spurs at Vicarage Road just a few weeks ago so the North London outfit would be out for some revenge following their recent struggles across all competitions. It is expected that both teams would make a lot of changes to their side so the result could be quite unpredictable.
On paper, Spurs should have enough in their locker to see off their Hertfordshire rivals but Javi Gracia’s men won’t give up without a fight. Mauricio Pochettino’s players could line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and we could see Fernando Llorente return to action for the North Londoners this week.
4-2-3-1 Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineup To Face Watford
Defence
Alfie Whiteman could make a rare start for Spurs after being named on the bench for their Premier League encounter against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. The youngster could be protected by the centre-back pairing of Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld. Ben Davies is expected to play as the left-back while Serge Aurier looks to use his pace and power down the right flank.
The Tottenham defence has leaked 7 goals in their past four matches across all competitions. So Pochettino would be hoping for a clean sheet versus the Hornets on Wednesday night.
Midfield
Pochettino might start with the midfield duo of Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama who would operate as the deep-lying holding midfielders at the centre of the park.
The trio of Moussa Sissoko, Erik Lamela and Georges-Kévin N’Koudou would be unleashed ahead of them as part of the Tottenham midfield. Lamela has been in sensational form for Spurs of late after finding the back of the net against Liverpool and Brighton respectively. We can expect another strong performance from the Argentine dribbler as he looks to get his name on the scoresheet once again in midweek.
Attack
Harry Kane is likely to be handed a rest so Fernando Llorente might be asked to lead the attack for Spurs on Wednesday. The Spaniard has not featured for Tottenham this season so this match against the Hornets would be his chance to shine in Pochettino’s first-team.
