Celtic’s 26-year-old midfielder Scott Allan joined the Hoops in 2015, and since then the midfielder has made just 17 appearances for his side. Recently he wasn’t included in the Europa League squad, and it seems clear that his time at Park Head is close to coming to an end now that he has entered in the final year of his contract. It looks as if he has almost been frozen out of the main squad.
However, we believe he is too good a player to be treated like that. We have the numbers to back that as last season, he spent his time with Hibernian FC on loan and the central midfielder contributed with four goals and 14 assists in 35 appearances. After a performance like that, one can only sympathise with the player that he is not even getting in the matchday squad. This season, he has only been part of the squad in the Champions League qualifiers, and he is still awaiting his first appearance of the season.
After selling Dylan McGeouch and John McGinn in the summer, one expected the Hibs to go after Allan after his impressive loan outing, but sadly the deal didn’t go through, and he still happens to be a Celtic player.
Allan will turn 27 in a few months and at this point, he should in the prime of his career. The former u-21 Scottish international, in fact, snubbed his boyhood club Rangers to join the Hoops as the Gers were then in the Championship. His last appearance for the Hoops was two seasons ago, and it doesn’t seem like he is going to add to his tally of 17 appearances.
Maybe in January, the midfielder could be sold but not selling him in the summer was a mistake from Brendan Rodgers and the management team. Perhaps they thought that after last season’s exploits, he can turn out to be a crucial player but being dropped from the Europa league squad suggests otherwise.
The 26-year-old has all the key facets to his game which would make him a good asset for most of the sides. His playmaking abilities are definitely worth mentioning and he has that special deceptiveness in his game when he gets the ball in the attacking third. Along with that, the Scotsman works hard when he is off the ball
The Bhoys do have a strong midfield partnership in Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham, so Allan’s back was always going to be against the wall even this season. We feel that he has wasted a good part of his career by just sitting on the bench and the Hoops should let him leave in the January window.
