Liverpool have made a perfect start to their new Premier League campaign following four successive victories in the league against the likes of West Ham United, Crystal Palace, Brighton & Hove Albion and Leicester City respectively. However, one of their new summer signings, Fabinho is yet to play for the Reds in a competitive match despite being fit for selection.
Fabinho’s Surprise Exclusion
Jurgen Klopp decided to start the Brazilian midfielder on the bench for the season opener versus the Hammers, but the player was not named in Liverpool’s match-day squads since then. The 24-year-old talent has recently revealed why he has not seen any first-team action for the Merseyside club until now. When asked about why Klopp has not selected him, he was quoted to have said, “He is being cautious… he has already talked with me about it several times,”
“I always want to play, but I am calm and patient because the season is long. I will work hard and be prepared when I get my chance.”
Is Klopp Correct In Snubbing The Brazilian Midfielder?
There is a good reason behind the Liverpool manager’s surprise exclusion of Fabinho. The fixtures will come thick and fast after the international break, so the former AS Monaco sensation is bound to make his competitive debut for the Merseysiders sooner rather than later. The Reds are expected to challenge on all fronts this season so the Brazilian could see more game time with the UEFA Champions League group stage matches kicking off later this month. The League Cup third round tie versus Chelsea is also looming on the horizon.
Klopp has kept his cards close to his chest and is prepared to give Fabinho every chance to settle in comfortably at Merseyside. The Brazilian is still learning how to adapt his game to Klopp’s system and might play a vital role later in the season. He is a midfield anchorman and could provide some added defensive cover to the Reds backline when required.
The Future Looks Bright For Fabinho And Liverpool
We can expect him to play a vital role shortly but for now, Fabinho needs to keep his head down, work hard and push for a starting berth in Klopp’s senior team. A lot will depend on how quickly he can adapt his game and cope with the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League. At 24, the Brazilian midfielder could hit his peak at Liverpool and Klopp is the ideal manager to get the best out of him.
Fabinho has a wealth of experience at the highest level while playing for AS Monaco. He made a total of 233 appearances for the Ligue 1 side, scoring 31 goals while grabbing 21 assists in all competitions. Keep a look out for him as he could be Liverpool’s secret weapon in midfield this season!
