Liverpool will entertain Southampton at Anfield on Saturday afternoon hoping to continue their perfect start to this season. The Reds are enjoying a rich vein of form at the moment after narrowly edging out Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. Jurgen Klopp would now hope that his players don’t get complacent and are successful in beating the Saints in front of their home supporters this weekend.
The German might opt for a 4-3-3 formation and may bring Roberto Firmino back into his first XI.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Southampton
Alisson Becker will line up for the Merseyside outfit once again following a string of brilliant performances from him since the start of this season. Simon Mignolet would have to settle for a spot on the bench and await his first-team opportunity in the coming weeks.
Liverpool’s Brazilian goalie shipped in two goals against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek so he would now be determined to bounce back and keep it solid at the back when he faces the Saints attack on Saturday.
The influential center-back partnership between Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez will continue at the back as the duo looks to put in another commanding performance against Southampton at Anfield. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson will resume their duties as the full-backs on either side of the Reds backline. The duo was outstanding versus PSG on Tuesday night so we can expect them to replicate a similar kind of display going forward this weekend.
Dejan Lovren is still nursing his way back to full fitness but is a significant doubt for this match. Joel Matip should start on Klopp’s bench on Saturday.
Midfield
James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum will retain their place at the middle of the park and could be joined by Naby Keita, who should come back into the Reds starting XI despite being replaced by Jordan Henderson in midweek. The Guinean international worked hard against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend which could mean that Klopp might stick with this trio in the Premier League as long as Liverpool keeps winning.
Both Milner and Wijnaldum have been in terrific form of late, and now, it would be up to Keita to prove his value against the Saints on Saturday afternoon.
Attack
Roberto Firmino is expected to lead the line after his midweek heroics against PSG when he came off the bench and scored in injury-time to earn all three points for the Merseyside club. However, Daniel Sturridge is likely to miss out and might have to be content with a place on the bench following his goal against the Parisian giants on Tuesday.
Both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are guaranteed starters and would look to use their pace to get behind the Southampton defence. Xherdan Shaqiri would be part of Klopp’s bench and might come on to make an impact during the contest if required.
