Liverpool have made a perfect start to their season after winning all seven of their matches across all competitions. However, it does not seem like Dominic Solanke is close to breaking into their first-team as he has not featured in Jurgen Klopp’s plans so far. The fact that he has not even made any of the Reds’ match-day squads this season would be a cause for concern for the English centre-forward.
Solanke: Liverpool’s Forgotten Man?
Solanke has just made one appearance for the Merseyside club’s Under-23 team in the Premier League 2 and has one goal to his name. The lack of first-team football could have a detrimental impact on his development, and hence, Solanke needs to find a way to go out on loan in January if he wants to become a future star in English football.
Solanke’s Career In A Nutshell
The Basingstoke forward graduated from the Chelsea academy but was not able to break into their senior team despite a productive spell at Vitesse on loan. Solanke scored seven goals in 26 appearances for the Dutch Eredivisie club. However, he only made one senior appearance for the Pensioners and was subsequently released by the club in the summer of 2017.
Klopp decided to sign him last year, and the 21-year-old managed to make 27 appearances for the Reds last season. However, his record for the Merseyside giants has been poor, to say the least, as he only found the back of the net once during his time at Anfield so far.
The English Forward’s Situation At Merseyside
Solanke was reluctant to go out on loan during the summer transfer period which has harmed his first-team chances this term. Klopp’s squad has a lot of depth this season, so the English forward has fallen down the pecking order behind the likes of Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi.
At the tender of 21, the former Chelsea striker needs to play football on a regular basis if he wants to play for the Liverpool senior team someday. For now, he needs to work on his game and go out on loan in January so that he can continue to grow into a top centre-forward.
Final Verdict
There is no doubt about the Liverpool attacker’s incredible potential, and with a manager like Klopp keeping an eye on his development, he would be in good hands as long as he can improve his game on the pitch. Solanke could still have a bright future at Liverpool but only time will tell whether he has enough talent to justify a place in Klopp’s starting XI next season.
