Everton, under new boss Marco Silva, had shown strong resilience so far and maintained an unbeaten run despite being down to 10 men in a couple of outings. They had a late heartbreak against Bournemouth following a 2-2 draw giving away a two-goal lead late in the game but ensured a comprehensive 3-1 victory at Goodison Park versus Rotherham United in a midweek League Cup fixture. The Toffees, determined to build up momentum, were desperate to clinch a win over Huddersfield Town this afternoon in their Premier League gameweek four outing but once again settled for a 1-1 draw, therefore, dropping two more points before the international break.
Below are the Everton players rated in their disappointing draw against Huddersfield Town.
Jordan Pickford: 6.5
The England ‘number 1’ made some routine stops, timely punches and clearances but could have done little to stop Philip Billing’s header from a first-half corner.
Seamus Coleman: 6.5
Mostly spent his time high up the pitch in search of goals but could not find the target. Had a tough time against Rajiv van La Parra who was purposeful for the Terriers down the wing but the Irishman, overall, did enough to avoid further trouble in the defensive third.
Mason Holgate: 7.5
The youngster impressed with his no-nonsense defending as he made numerous clearances throughout the game and also did well against the physicality of Steve Mounie.
Kurt Zouma: 6.5
Should have earned his side a lead but his header was wide to the right of the goal minutes after Calvert-Lewin’s equaliser. Also could have done better defensively along with his teammates while defending the corner that resulted in the Town goal.
Lucas Digne: 8
Made a massive impact down the left as his stunning delivery was headed home by Calvert-Lewin to bring the Toffees back on level terms seconds after Billing’s opener. Was replaced by Leighton Baines with around 20 minutes remaining in the match.
Morgan Schneiderlin: 7.5
Had a strong presence in the middle of the park with his passing, ability to switch the game down the flanks, tackles and duels to control the flow. Picked up a booking late in the game following a nasty challenge and was lucky not to be booked in an early confrontation.
Tom Davies: 6.5
The youngster lost many duels but kept the game fluid with his relentless runs, passing and high work ethics. Received a booking just over the hour mark but was composed and disciplined otherwise.
Theo Walcott: 6
Whipped in a couple of crosses from the right but failed to create anything spectacular like his previous outings. Could not recover from an injury suffered late in the first half and was replaced by Ademola Lookman minutes before the hour mark.
Gylfi Sigurdsson: 6
The Icelandic international should have brought in more creativity from his ‘number 10’ role as he failed to test Jonas Lössl’s resolve in Huddersfield goal and was also dispossessed a few times during the contest. Played a few decent one-twos and also whipped in a couple of crosses which, however, lacked end product. Was replaced by Oumar Niasse for the final 15 minutes of regulation time.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 7.5
His glancing header found Everton the equaliser but could not claim three points from the home encounter despite exhibiting glimpses of his excellence high up the pitch. He had a golden opportunity to seal it in closing minutes but failed to direct Leighton Baines’ corner on target.
Cenk Tosun: 5
The Turkish international failed to leave an impact this afternoon as he could not cause enough menace in the Terriers’ backline and only had a few link-up movements worth mentioning in 90 minutes of football.
Substitutes
Ademola Lookman: 6.5
Combined well at times down the right flank but failed to make any noteworthy contribution despite injecting freshness and flair in Everton attack.
Leighton Baines: 6
Tried to grab a late winner for his side from his crossing and set-piece traits.
Oumar Niasse: 5
Made little impact since coming on as he had only a few touches, failed with his dribble attempts and got dispossessed frequently in the closing minutes of the game.
