Liverpool have made a perfect start to their Premier League campaign after emerging victorious in all five of their league matches so far. The Reds also managed to narrowly beat Paris Saint-Germain last night with a 3-2 scoreline to open their UEFA Champions League season with a crucial victory at home. Things are all falling in place for Jurgen Klopp’s men after a busy summer for the club in the transfer market.
Summer Recruits Have Made A Huge Impact
The Merseyside outfit managed to bring in the likes of Naby Keita from RB Leipzig, Fabinho from AS Monaco, Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City and Alisson Becker from AS Roma to add more depth and quality to their squad which had already been to the final of the Champions League last season. Both Keita and Alisson have settled well to life at Anfield while Fabinho and Xherdan Shaqiri are still looking for their chance in Klopp’s first-team.
It is no secret that the Reds were crying out for a reliable goalkeeper in between the sticks last season and they have now finally got one in Alisson, who has shipped in just four goals in six matches during this campaign. Klopp also had the luxury to bring on Shaqiri and Fabinho from the bench against PSG which goes on to show how much quality the German boss has at his disposal at Merseyside.
Consistency Has Been Key
Liverpool have stuck with the same back four in all of their matches so far. Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk have developed one of the best defensive partnerships in England after they put in a string of consistent performances at the heart of the Reds defence. Both Trent-Alexander Arnold and Andrew Robertson are only getting better with more game time on the pitch, and they have also been a wonderful outlet for Klopp’s men going forward.
The likes of James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum have slowly gone about their business in midfield and looks like they have been playing together for years. The midfield duo has both been very consistent with their displays and are always willing to work hard for their team at the middle of the pitch.
Front Three Will Get Better
Although, both Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have already scored some crucial goals for the Merseyside heavyweights this season, yet it is the form of Mohamed Salah which has been concerning. The Egyptian has got a plethora of chances over the first six matches, but he has just scored two goals so far. With games coming thick and fast for Liverpool over the coming weeks, we can expect all three forwards to get better and score more goals while leading the lines for the Reds up top.
Daniel Sturridge is also a worthy back-up for Firmino as evidenced by his fantastic performance versus PSG last night, so Klopp has a lot of options to choose from in the final third.
Conclusion
With so many positives to take from their recent results, Liverpool fans are unsurprising hoping for big things from their beloved side this season. Klopp’s men could potentially end the trophy drought at Anfield if they can continue with the same level of performance all throughout this campaign.
