Brentford have made a terrific start to their domestic campaign and currently find themselves in the third spot of the EFL Championship standings behind Leeds United and Middlesbrough. The Bees have won four, drawn three and lost just once out of their eight league matches so far. One of the main reasons for their recent success has been Brentford’s outstanding home form at Griffin Park. Dean Smith’s side have a 100% winning record in front of their home supporters this season which has given them an ideal platform to go on and challenge for a promotion spot this term.
Brentford Firing On All Cylinders
The Bees have also won their League Cup matches to set up a dream third-round date with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. With Neal Maupay and Ollie Watkins in such great form going forward, Brentford would fancy their chances against any team during this campaign. Even players such as Lewis Macleod and Julian Jeanvier have done well and have chipped in with a few goals and assists from midfield and defence respectively.
The Bees Have Been Defensively Solid But Can Improve Even More
However, there is still room for improvement as far as their defence is concerned. The Bees have shipped in seven goals in eight league matches which is a decent record, but Dean Smith’s side has to keep things more solid at the back if they are to mount a realistic title challenge this season. The fact that so many of their wins have come on the back of strong defensive performances goes on to show how vital their defensive record could be in the long-run.
Dean Smith’s Attacking Style Of Play At Griffin Park
The Brentford manager has often opted for a fluid 4-2-3-1 formation this season with the dangerous Neal Maupay leading the lines up top. He has already found the back of the net eight times this term while also creating three assists in all competitions. Watkins has provided some added firepower from left midfield with four goals and two assists to his name.
It is clear that the current batch of Brentford players are flourishing under the leadership of Dean Smith and are enjoying his brand of football at Griffin Park.
Can Brentford Make A Promotion Push?
It feels like the Bees could be destined for big things in this campaign as long as they can keep up the same level of performance for the rest of the season which would be easier said than done. Yet, Dean Smith has already proven that his Brentford team plays well as an underdog and could surprise a lot of people by winning promotion to the Premier League at the end of this campaign.
