Liverpool will take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening hoping to bounce back from their League Cup defeat against Maurizio Sarri’s men on Wednesday night. The Reds made a lot of changes to their first-team in midweek and got punished for it as the Pensioners ran out 2-1 victors on the night. However, this weekend would serve as a more entertaining contest with both teams looking to pick up maximum points from this encounter.
Jurgen Klopp is expected to stick with his favoured 4-3-3 formation and might bring back all of his first-choice defenders this weekend.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Alisson Becker would line up for the Merseyside outfit once again after he was rested in midweek against Chelsea. Simon Mignolet would have to settle for a spot on the bench after conceding two goals in the League Cup. Liverpool’s first-choice Brazilian goalkeeper has put in a string excellent performances during the course of this season so it would up to him to deny Sarri’s attackers from scoring on Saturday.
The terrific centre-back pairing of Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez should continue at the back as both defenders would look to put in another resolute performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson will resume their responsibilities as the full-backs on either side of the Liverpool backline.
Either Dejan Lovren or Joel Matip might be available on the bench and could come on during the clash if required.
Midfield
James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum will start at the centre of the pitch and could be joined by Jordan Henderson, who will come back into the Reds starting XI despite being replaced by Naby Keita in midweek. The Liverpool captain was left frustrated after Sarri’s men ran out 2-1 winners in the League Cup so he would be desperate to right the wrongs on Saturday.
Both Milner and Wijnaldum have been in terrific form of late, and now, it would be up to Henderson to prove his worth in midfield against the Pensioners this weekend.
Attack
Roberto Firmino is expected to spearhead Klopp’s attack at Stamford Bridge. However, Daniel Sturridge might have to settle for a place on the bench following his underwhelming display in midweek.
Both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are guaranteed starters and would look to use their quickness and agility to get behind the Chelsea defence. Xherdan Shaqiri would be an option off the bench for Klopp to consider at Stamford Bridge as well.
