Rangers will take on St. Johnstone this weekend at Ibrox where they will look to get their league campaign back on track. The 4-0 win over Dundee last weekend did bring them back in the top 4. Now they should look to continue their rise on the table. Both the sides are level on points at the moment so expect the away side to give a tough fight.
The Gers are coming on the back of a confidence-boosting away draw against Villarreal who finished 5th in the La Liga last season. Gerrard can take a lot of positives out of that encounter and Rangers can look to build their form in the league from that game.
Team News
Jamie Murphy, Gareth McAuley, Ovie Ejaria, Ryan Jack, Lee Wallace and Jordan Rossiter are going to miss out due to their injuries. With players coming after a tough away trip from Spain, we can expect some changes in the first team.
Rangers’ Predicted Lineup Vs St.Johnstone
Formation(4-3-3)
Defence
Allan McGregor is the undisputed no.1 in goal, and he has rescued the team on quite a few occasions. Surprisingly, Gerrard chose the tough game against Villarreal to hand Joe Worrall his debut. Apart from the nervy start, the Englishman looked strong in his challenges, and we can expect him to keep his place. Nikola Katic was the one who made way for the 21-year-old last game, so we expect him to start as he would be fresh and ready to go.
Borna Barisic was a threat down the left flank, but he was pulling up with cramps late in the game in Spain. We believe it would be right to give him that much-needed break and Jon Flanagan can start in the left back role. James Tavernier will start from the right side of the defence to complete the back four.
Midfield
Andy Halliday will start in the defensive midfield role. Graham Dorrans got some minutes under his belt coming as a substitute against Villarreal and looked good. Therefore we believe Gerrard can give him a start in this game. Lassana Coulibaly should be the other midfielder in the midfield of three. The Angers loanee didn’t have the best of games against the Spanish outfit, but he has been impressive overall since his comeback from injury.
Forward
Glenn Middleton has looked bright in the cameos which he has made so far, and maybe it’s time for Gerrard to unleash him from the beginning. Out on the right, Eros Grezda can get his first start of the season.
Alfredo Morelos will lead the line after he missed out the Europa League game due to suspension. Though he couldn’t play that game, the Colombian striker travelled with the team to Spain to cheer them on.
