Tottenham Hotspur has made a mediocre start to this new campaign and currently find themselves in the 5th position of the Premier League table, six points behind table-toppers Liverpool. One of the main problems for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season has been the lack of firepower up top. Spurs have only got Harry Kane to rely upon to get the goals in the final third.
However, the English striker had a long summer due to his 2018 FIFA World Cup commitments with England and is currently looking like a shadow of his former self. He has struggled to score goals in recent weeks and has looked tired and jaded quite often this season. The North Londoners desperately need to bring in a reinforcement in January to help share the English forward’s workload up top.
Here are three forwards Pochettino should consider in January to help reduce Kane’s goal-scoring burden at White Hart Lane.
Lorenzo Insigne
The Napoli attacker is highly versatile and primarily operates as a left-winger but he can also be deployed as a secondary striker inside the opposition penalty box. The Italian talent has been a prolific goal-scorer for Napoli over the past few years which makes him a perfect fit for Spurs.
Pochettino can surely utilise someone of Insigne’s talents in North London as he would significantly improve the Tottenham squad which could help them finish in the top 4 and ensure UEFA Champions League football for at least another season.
Robert Lewandowski
The Polish forward is vastly experienced at the highest level and knows what it takes to score goals on a regular basis. He is the type of forward who can come in and start banging in the goals from the get-go. The 30-year-old has started this season in excellent form, scoring eight goals in 7 appearances for Bayern Munich across all competitions and would be an ideal back-up (more probably a strike partner) for Harry Kane at White Hart Lane.
Iago Aspas
The former Liverpool forward has performed incredibly well after moving back to Spain. He has been an exceptional goal-scorer for Celta de Vigo since making a switch from Sevilla in the summer of 2015. He has already found the back of the net four times in 5 matches this season and might be tempted to make a move back to England to right the wrongs of his time in the Premier League.
