West Ham United have finally managed to get a win on the board after suffering four successive losses in the Premier League since the start of this season. The Hammers were excellent during their match against Everton at Goodison Park last weekend. Both teams fought hard, but it was the quality of Marko Arnautovic and Andriy Yarmolenko up top which shone through as the East London outfit managed to come away with all three points from Merseyside.
However, most of the credit should also go to the Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini after he made a number of changes to his side which worked wonders on Sunday. The front three of Felipe Anderson, Arnautovic and Yarmolenko were unstoppable on the day as they wreaked havoc in the opposition half.
Here are three lessons the Hammers can learn from their outstanding victory against the Toffees.
Arnautovic and Yarmolenko Will Battle It Out To Be West Ham’s Top Scorer
It was clear from West Ham’s performance this weekend that they have enough firepower up top to survive in the Premier League despite their poor run of form at the start of this season. Both Arnautovic and Yarmolenko were head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. The Austrian centre-forward has already shown that he can be a regular goal-scorer in the top tier of English football, but the Ukrainian winger still needs to produce the goods up top on a weekly basis if he wants to be a success in the Premier League.
Issa Diop Is Finally Proving His Worth
Diop signed for West Ham earlier this summer with a lot of promise and high expectations surrounding his arrival in England, but things didn’t pan out for him during the first four league matches of this season. However, he has now managed to turn the corner after the centre-back put on a commanding display against Everton to help his side earn three crucial points which might go a long way in helping the Hammers kickstart their campaign.
Declan Rice Is A Star In The Making
Rice operated as a deep-lying, holding midfielder for Pellegrini’s team and bossed the midfield at Goodison Park on Sunday. The Republic of Ireland defensive ace performed well under pressure and was outstanding with his distribution of the ball. He also managed to stop a number of Everton attacks and was always willing to cover more ground and go that extra mile for the success of his team.
At the tender age of 19, Rice has incredible potential and could be a future star in the making.
