According to reports in Calciomercato, Chelsea tried to sign Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanić in the summer transfer window. It’s believed that the Blues had put in a €50m bid for the 28-year-old midfielder but, Juventus turned down the offer and were demanding double that amount.
Pjanic is very much in the long-term plans of the Italian giants as he recently signed a new five-year contract at the club so one can understand why the Old Lady had earlier turned down the bid from Chelsea. Sarri must have seen him from close quarters when he was at Napoli but, he was unable to lure him at Stamford Bridge.
However, the new Chelsea manager did add some decent players in the midfield position as he brought in the likes of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic. Like Jorginho, Pjanic is a deep-lying playmaker but he can play in a more advanced role as well which Kovacic will be doing at Chelsea.
It would have been foolish of Blues to go in with an improved bid for Pjanic and one would say that the Pensioners made took the right call by not going in too hard for Pjanic as they got decent options in midfield. Chelsea will be looking to bounce back in the top-4 in their first season under Maurizio Sarri and from the start which they have made, they look on course to achieve that.

Pjanic came into prominence when he was with AS Roma and has slowly become an integral member of Max Allegri’s squad. He joined the Bianconeri’s in 2016 and has so far played a crucial role in their domestic domination. With Cristiano Ronaldo now at the club, they will look to go all the way in the European competition as well.
