Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has recently confirmed that Jamie Murphy would miss the rest of the season due to a severe anterior cruciate ligament injury which would come as a big blow for the Gers supporters. Murphy had slowly established himself in Gerrard’s first-team and had already scored some crucial goals for the Light Blues. Hence, losing him for the whole campaign could be a massive miss for the Teddy Bears unless they can find a worthy replacement in the coming days before the transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
One player they can look to sign on a temporary basis is Liverpool’s Sheyi Ojo. The youngster is currently not in Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the new season so the Merseyside club could be willing to loan him out this month so that he can get some valuable first-team experience and come back as a much-improved version of himself next year.
Sheyi Ojo – The Rising Star Of Merseyside
The Hemel Hempstead born talent is a Milton Keynes Dons youth product who joined Liverpool while playing at the Under-18 level. Since his move to Anfield in the summer of 2011, the English starlet has featured for the club’s Under-18 team and has had loan spells with Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers and most recently with Fulham.
Ojo played an integral role under Slavisa Jokanovic at Craven Cottage helping the club secure promotion back to the Premier League earlier this year via the playoffs. The 21-year-old is currently playing for Liverpool in the Premier League 2 but could be open to another loan switch to get some first-team experience under his belt.
What Will He Bring To The Ibrox Stadium?
Ojo primarily operates on the left flank and boasts incredible pace which helps him dribble out of tight spaces with the ball. He can link up play well and would be an ideal asset for the Gers especially since Gerrard knows him well from his time as the club captain and as a youth level manager at Liverpool.
As evidenced by his record at Fulham and Wolves, the Liverpool wonderkid has a habit of scoring and creating goals but only when he is confident on the pitch. However, the 21-year-old still needs to work on his physical attributes at the gym, and his shooting needs to improve as well so that he can become a better player which will only come with regular game time on the pitch.
Will He Be A Worthy Replacement For Jamie Murphy?
Just like how Murphy used to operate in the left side of Gerrard’s front three, Ojo is equally adept at playing in that specific position and can thrive with regular first-team opportunities under Gerrard at the Ibrox Stadium.
He is even quicker and would be a similar threat up top for the Light Blues which makes him a perfect replacement for the Scottish talent.
