Last night, Tottenham Hotspur’s excellent 3-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford was entirely overshadowed by Jose Mourinho and his post-match press conference antics. The focus of the media has mainly been on United’s recent miseries rather than Spurs, who have quietly made a huge statement in the Premier League title race.
Underestimate Spurs At Your Peril
The North Londoners are one of four clubs with a 100% winning record so far this season and could be the dark horses to win the league title. However, a lot of pundits had ruled them out even before the season started as the club failed to add to their squad in the off-season.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino had some financial constraints with most of the club’s budget being spent on the construction of the new White Hart Lane. Hence, Tottenham did not manage to bring in any new players which were a cause for concern for their supporters.
However, Pochettino’s men have responded brilliantly with players such as Lucas Moura stepping up to the challenge and delivering at the highest level. It is clear that most of us have underestimated how good Spurs can be!
Secret To Spurs’ Success – New Era, New Heroes?
Pochettino has managed to keep a core bunch of players at the club over the last few years who are slowly developing into world-class talents. With players such as Dele Alli, Jan Vertonghen, Hugo Lloris, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane already at the peak of their careers, there have been new heroes emerging at North London with the likes of Lucas Moura and Kieran Trippier ready to take their game to another level.
With so much promise in the Tottenham squad, it should not come as a surprise that they are a team capable of beating anyone on their day. There will be tougher tests in the coming weeks with fixtures against Watford and Liverpool looming on the horizon.
Can Tottenham Win The Premier League Title?
Tottenham have the talent required to mount a serious title challenge but winning the Premier League would be no easy feat as they would need Manchester City and Liverpool, both teams arguably have a stronger squad, to slip up from time to time. However, Pochettino’s team have got as good of a chance as anyone else to contend for the title as long as their star players can remain injury free. A lot would depend on how much of the season the majority of their first team players can start in.
