According to Peterborough Today, as reported by the Bristol Post, Leeds United are among a whole host of clubs looking to secure the signature of Peterborough United playmaker Marcus Maddison on loan with a view to a permanent deal. The Posh forward has taken the League One by storm after putting in some excellent performances at the ABAX Stadium over the past few years since his arrival from Gateshead FC in the summer of 2014.
Maddison has managed to gather a wealth of experience in the lower leagues of England but is still unproven at the top level. A step up to the EFL Championship might prove to be tough for a player plying his trade in League One. However, his potential is incredible which is why the Whites should look to take a chance on him.
A Brief Overview
The 24-year-old came through the Newcastle United youth academy and had a brief one-month loan spell with Blyth Spartans before being released by the Magpies in the winter transfer window of 2013. St. Johnstone took a chance on him as they signed him on a free transfer in February 2013. However, he was unable to break into their senior side and was eventually sold to Gateshead FC just months after making a switch to Scotland.
At the Gateshead International Stadium, Maddison finally came into prominence when he was able to become one of their star players during his one-year spell at the club. He managed to score 13 goals while notching up with five assists in 37 appearances for the National League outfit.
His eye-catching displays in the National League caught the eyes of Peterborough chiefs who managed to bring the player to the ABAX Stadium. He has since excelled during his time with the Posh and has become one of the first names in Steve Evans’ teamsheet. Maddison has made 177 appearances for the League One side, finding the back of the net 42 times while also grabbing 61 assists across all competitions.
What Does He Bring To The Table?
The 24-year-old primarily operates as an attacking midfielder but is also capable of featuring on either flank, which makes him an ideal fit for Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa’s 4-2-3-1 system. Maddison can play anywhere across the midfield behind the main frontman, and so it won’t take much time for him to adapt to Bielsa’s style of football at Elland Road.
At the tender age of 24, the English playmaker is just about to hit his peak years which means that the Whites can get the best out of him in the near future. In our opinion, Bielsa should go all out to land him this month.
