The day is finally here! Last season’s Premier League champions Manchester City and FA Cup champions Chelsea are ready to clash heads, this time for the Community Shield at the Wembley Stadium. It will also mark the start of the regime of one of the most highly rated managers in European football, Maurizio Sarri, who took over the reins at Chelsea from his compatriot Antonio Conte this summer.
The 59-year-old gaffer took the football world by storm as he showed his managerial prowess with the Serie A giants Napoli in the last few seasons. He made a statement of intent by leading them to compete with the best clubs both in Europe and on the domestic level. Napoli showed that they are lesser to none by taking the race for the Serie A Scudetto to the last lap, bowing out to the eventual champions Juventus in the previous term.
Sarri built a team that included many consistent performers, one of them being the Italian midfield ace Jorginho. It came as no surprise that he brought the player to Chelsea right after his appointment as the manager for a fee of £57m. The Blues gazumped their competitors in the Community Shield match, Manchester City, who were almost set to secure the services of the player in the first place and Sarri does not doubt that he will play an essential role in “bridging the gap” with the Cityzens.

He said, “Jorginho is one of the steps to reduce the gap. But the rest is to work. The table of the last Premier League told me City had 100 points, and Chelsea had 70 points. We have to try to reduce 30 points, and I know only one way: to work.”
