According to Sky Sports, as cited by Joe.co.uk, Liverpool new signing Fabinho has stated the real reason behind him joining the Reds this summer. The Brazilian midfielder was a long-term target for Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Manchester United but he, almost unexpectedly signed for the Merseyside club for £40m.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the former AS Monaco ace, who won the Ligue 1 title with them in the season prior to the last term revealed that he was never pursued by the Red Devils in the transfer market. He said,
“Manchester never showed any formal interest, they never made me an offer at all,”
He added,”Maybe there was some interest or a conversation but it’s not a case of Monaco not letting me go to Manchester United or denying me the move, nothing ever really materialised.”
The player has been one of the most talked about players in the last couple of seasons and Liverpool would do well to have him in their lineup. A solid defensive midfielder who can also be used as a defender, Fabinho can be the game-changer as the Reds lacked a top quality talent in the middle of the park and they have finally got one in the form of the 24 year old Brazilian.
Liverpool’s attacking prowess had seen them grab all the limelight in the last term as they made it into the final of the Champions League. However, the lack of able players in the midfield, especially one to play in front of the back four as a screen, saw them lose out to Real Madrid.
