Chelsea winger Pedro has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2020. His current contract was set to run out next year but the Chelsea board and management feel that he can be a valuable player for them in the next two years.
On the eve of signing the new contract, he was quoted as saying,”It’s important for me to continue with Chelsea, I am comfortable here and want to win new titles and trophies. I want to help the team, score goals, and I repeat, I am really happy.”
The player moved from Barcelona in 2015 and has played a decent role in the past few years. He might not have been a regular starter but he has made his presence felt as a valuable squad player. The 31-year-old has made 95 appearances in the Premier League and has returned a healthy tally of 20 goals and 15 assists.
The winger manager 7 goals and 5 assists last season and it remains to be seen whether he will be in the plans of the new manager. The likes of Eden Hazard and Willian are constantly being linked with a move away from the club so it was important that the Blues at least secured the future of their Spanish winger.
Pedro has decent pace and excellent dribbling skills and he was part of the Barcelona squad which dominated club football for quite a few years under Pep Guardiola. He might not have had the same impact at the West London club but he remains an important player for them in the upcoming season.
His experience of playing at the top level for so long will be a big factor as Maurizio Sarri tries to get the Pensioners back to Champions League football and it remains to be seen how the Italian manager will use the Spaniard in a new setup.
