Arsenal‘s Nigerian winger, Alex Iwobi has signed a new contract with the club. Iwobi has come through Arsenal’s youth system as he joined the club when he was just 9. Now at 22, he is slowly establishing himself in the senior squad and Unai Emery will be hoping that the young winger will have a breakthrough season up ahead in the 2018-19 campaign.
Emery seemed delighted with the new deal, he said,”I’m very pleased Alex has signed a new contract with us. He is a great example of a player who can succeed from the Academy through hard work and I look forward to working with him and our other talented young players in the squad.”
Iwobi can be classified as a work in progress as he still needs to go a long way before he establishes himself in the playing eleven. He has made 98 appearances for the Gunners after breaking into the team for the first time in 2015. The winger is set to play a crucial role in the upcoming campaign as he is the only one who can be classified as an outright winger in the squad.
The 22-year-old needs to bring more composure to his game as he often fails to find the right pass in crunch situations. He is known for his ability to wriggle out of tight spaces but adding more goal threat and better decision making will take his game to another level. The new gaffer will definitely be hoping that the Nigerian can showcase his true potential now that the club has put its faith in him by offering a new contract.
