According to the Express, Manchester United‘s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has informed Jose Mourinho about a fourth signing this summer. The Red Devils have been able to sign just 3 players in the current transfer market, Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred being the most popular name among them.
As per the report, Woodward was found speaking to the Portuguese manager briefly in the tunnel after their win over Real Madrid in the pre-season tournament. His conversation with Mourinho was about the confirmation of the deal regarding Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur. The player has been linked with Manchester United for some time now and it seems that the transfer saga has come to a close now.
Mourinho has been far from happy with the performances of his defenders, especially with the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Luke Shaw and has been vocal about his displeasure. He has been eyeing the likes of Harry Maguire from Leicester City and Alderweireld from Tottenham and should be happy to know that he is getting his hands on at least one of his preferred players this summer.
The report also states that a deal in principle has already been agreed between the two clubs, given that Spurs are able to find a viable replacement for their Belgian defensive ace.

Jose Mourinho had reportedly reminded Woodward about his transfer demands to beef up the squad earlier this week. He has also emphasized the fact that he has enough faith in the CEO. He said, “My CEO knows what I want for quite a long time, I know he tries to do the best for me and I still have a few days to wait to see what happens.”
