According to the latest reports, Manchester United are still in the race to sign Barcelona‘s defender Yerry Mina. It was believed that Everton had gone ahead in the race to sign the centre-back but United have already reached an agreement with the player but Barcelona are still not happy with the fee which is being offered for the 23-year-old Colombian.
The La Liga holders are asking a fee of €40m and it is believed that United’s offer is well short of that mark. With just a day remaining in the transfer period, the Red Devils will have to move in quick if they want to sign the defender.
United have been linked with defenders left right and centre and they are yet to reach an agreement with any of them. Strong sources were earlier reporting that Toby Alderweireld will be signed before the transfer deadline day by Jose Mourinho but things are going to get tricky as every hour passes by.
Mina’s stock has risen up after an impressive outing in the World Cup. The 23-year-old is comfortable with the ball on his feet and has a strong physical presence at the back. He is even handy for his team while attacking on set pieces as he scored 3 goals in the World Cup for his country.
Since his move in January, Mina started just four games in the La Liga and that would have left the player miffed. It is highly unlikely that Ernesto Valverde will give him much of a chance if the likes of Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti are fit.
The defender will like to play week in week out at this point in time in his career and moving to United can be a big opportunity for him as Mourinho is trying to find an able partner for Eric Bailly.
