Latest reports suggest that Besiktas are keen on selling Croatian defender Domagoj Vida in the ongoing transfer window and the club’s president Fikret Orman is in England looking for probable suitors for the 29-year-old. Liverpool are one of the teams who have been linked with him and they are still monitoring the situation of the defender. Along with the Merseyside club, Arsenal are also said to be in the race to sign the 29-year-old World Cup finalist.
The Reds have done their business early in the market and Jurgen Klopp had gone on to indicate that they are not likely to go after any further targets in the summer. However, there have been rumours going around that Liverpool can go after a defender as they look to win something substantial under the German manager.
Maybe an injury to Joel Matip in preseason has pushed the Reds to rethink their choice. Premier League is just a few days away and Liverpool are likely to go with either Ragnar Klavan or Joe Gomez as a partner for Virgil Van Dijk in the first game as Dejan Lovren joined the squad late after his exploits in the World Cup for Croatia.
Jurgen Klopp will be aware that to win big trophies he will need to have depth in his squad. Liverpool’s first eleven look formidable and many are of the opinion that they are the closest competitor for Manchester City in the upcoming season. However, to perform consistently over the course of 38 games and other competitions, having squad depth is an absolute necessity.
