Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has stated that the Reds goalkeeper Simon Mignolet could be perfect for Barcelona if he is willing to be their number 2 goalkeeping option. In a recent edition of ESPN FC, Nicol shared his opinion and reckons that the Belgian goalie should make a switch to the Nou Camp if he is happy with playing second-fiddle to another goalkeeper, which in this case, would be Marc-André ter Stegen.
Mignolet’s future at the Merseyside club is quite uncertain after the world-record acquisition of Brazil international Alisson Becker earlier this summer. The Belgian shot-stopper lost his place to Loris Karius during the second half of last season, so he is likely to find himself further down the pecking order at Anfield.
There has been recent speculation linking Barca with a sensational move for the ex-Sunderland goalie. When asked to share his thoughts on the potential transfer, Nicol was quoted to have said, “It depends on what Mignolet wants,”
“If he wants, or is happy at 30 years of age, to kind of just be known now as a No 2, then this is perfect.
“It’s perfect for him, and it’s perfect for Barcelona as well.
“I think there’s a chance that something like this might happen.
“It might not be Barcelona, but I think he goes.
“So I’m going to say this is a hit.”
With the arrival of Allison this summer, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has to take a decision on the futures of both Loris Karius and Mignolet in the coming days with both keepers set for a spell on the bench or the sidelines if they end up staying at Anfield beyond this summer.
