According to Birmingham Live, as reported by Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United are being linked with a move to secure the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth this month. Any potential move would be on a temporary basis since the transfer window has already closed for all English clubs, but the EFL Championship teams can still bring players in on loan until the end of this month.
Juan Foyth – The Argentine Sensation
The 20-year-old defensive ace was born at La Plata, Argentina and graduated from the esteemed Estudiantes academy before being promoted to their first-team. The famous Argentine outfit has already seen some renowned players from the South American nation such as Juan Sebastian Veron, Rodrigo Brana, Mariano Andujar and Carlos Bilardo lace up their boots at the Estadio Ciudad de La Plata. Newcastle United’s Federico Fernandez also used to ply his trade for the La Plata-based team, and now, Foyth has a chance to etch his name in the history books by making a name for himself in England.
Spurs scouts spotted his defensive talents as they managed to agree on a move to bring him to North London last year. Since his switch, Foyth has been able to earn eight appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s senior team but is in dire need of regular game time this season so that he can develop and take his game to the next level.
What Will He Bring To Leeds United?
Foyth is a well-rounded centre-half who can dribble with the ball and is suited to play a high line as he has enough pace in his locker to recover in one-on-one situations. He also has a great leap for a 6 ft 1-inch defender, but his strength needs to improve if he is going to prove his worth in English football, especially in the EFL Championship, a league known for its physicality and high intensity.
His playing style is pretty similar to how John Stones operates in Pep Guardiola’s team at Manchester City. However, he still has a long way to go regarding developing his game and proving his talents at the highest level.
Will Foyth Be The Perfect Signing For Bielsa’s System?
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is known to often play with three central defenders at the back which means that Foyth could be guaranteed regular game time at Elland Road. The Argentine head coach is one of the best man managers in world football and could get the best out of his fellow countryman at the West Yorkshire club. Foyth’s ability on the ball makes him an ideal fit for the Whites as they look to challenge for a promotion spot in this campaign.
