Stan Kroenke who used to hold 67% of the ownership of Arsenal Football Club has now acquired full ownership of the team. Previous owners Alisher Usmanov and his company Red and White Securities have accepted Kroenke’s £600m offer for rest of the 30% of the share. With this new deal, the London outfit is now valued at £1.8bn.
The owner’s company, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment(KSE), released a statement which said,”We at KSE are moving forward with this offer leading to 100% ownership of the club. We appreciate Mr Usmanov’s dedication to the Arsenal Football Club and the storied ethos and history the club represents. KSE’s ambitions for the club are to see it competing consistently to win the Premier League and the Champions League, as well as the major trophies in the women’s senior game and at youth level.”
KSE also happens to own NFL’s LA Rams, the NBA side Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche of the NHL and Colorado Rapids in the MLS.
The move is likely to not go down well with the fans as they have been not impressed with him over the past few years. The time of the new deal is also to be questioned as a change of ownership just before the season begins might put an extra burden on the people working at the back. The club should currently concentrate on ending the transfer period on a high and making sure someone like Aaron Ramsey stays at the club.
From Arsenal’s point of view, they will hope that this transition will be smooth and it will not jeopardise their possible transfer targets. With just a few days remaining for the new season to begin, everyone should be concentrated on starting the season well under the new management of Unai Emery.
