According to the Mirror, as cited by Shoot, Manchester United made an attempt in the summer transfer window to land the French superstar Kylian Mbappe but were left disappointed as their offer was rejected by the Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint Germain.
The 19-year-old forward had a dazzling World Cup campaign with France as Lez Bleus triumphed in the final over Croatia to lift the greatest prize in football. He tore apart the opposition with his blistering pace and notched up four goals, including one in the final and was hailed as one of the stars of the future.
The former AS Monaco striker, who joined PSG on an initial loan in the last term, made his move permanent this summer with the current Ligue 1 champions. As per reports, Manchester United were in contention to lure him out of the Parc des Princes but PSG held onto their prized possession, leaving Jose Mourinho and Co. disappointed.
The Portuguese manager had an insignificant transfer window, which saw the Red Devils managing to land only three players in the form of Diogo Dalot from Porto, Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and Lee Grant from Stoke City. The reported pursuit of Mbappe, however, ended in despair for him.
Manchester United have started their Premier League campaign with a win as they defeated Leicester City in their own backyard and notched up three valuable points. Their French superstar, Paul Pogba, rose to the occasion, as he took on the responsibility of the team captain and led them to victory, opening the scoring in the process.
