According to reports in the Daily Mail, Manchester United have been offered a chance to sign Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng. The German is rated at £50m and the Bavarians have no qualms in selling him as he is already 30 years old and along with that, he had a poor World Cup for his country.
United have been linked with plenty of defenders in the transfer market as Jose Mourinho tries to close the gap between them and their derby rivals. Latest reports suggested that they were in talks to sign Barcelona‘s defender Yerry Mina but now they are considering other options.
Toby Alderweireld is another such name which has been doing the rounds since the transfer window started but nothing has materialised as of now. Mourinho soon needs to decide which defender he wants to go after as he looks for an able and strong partner for Eric Bailly. Boateng has been considered as one of the best defenders in the last few years but his powers are certainly waning as he missed a good chunk of games last season for his club due to various injury and had a shocking World Cup for which he was criticised heavily in his homeland.
As a defender, Boateng is comfortable playing out from the back and is strong in his challenges. He might not have the pace but he reads the game well and takes care of the situation well. However, the player doesn’t seem to be the same in the last one or two seasons so signing him for £50m could turn out to be a risky affair for Mourinho.

Nevertheless, an experienced head like him will definitely add a lot of stability to United’s backline and Mourinho is in need of instant success as he cannot afford to go another season trophyless so there still might be a chance that the player might make his way back to England.
