Rangers will travel to North Lancashire to take on Motherwell at the Fir Park Stadium on Sunday after snatching a narrow victory in the UEFA Europa League first-leg tie against FC Ufa in midweek. The Gers come into this game full of confidence as they have won four of their past five matches across all competitions.
However, the home team would be desperate for points following a poor start to their league campaign and so it won’t be easy for the Light Blues to come away with maximum points this weekend.
Steven Gerrard is expected to adopt a 4-3-3 formation and might make a few changes for this upcoming Scottish Premiership clash.
4-3-3 Rangers Predicted Lineup To Face Motherwell
Defence
Allan McGregor should make the cut and feature in Gerrard’s starting XI while Wes Foderingham would have to play second fiddle on the bench. The centre-back pairing of Connor Goldson and Nikola Katić will continue at the heart of the Light Blues defence after their impressive displays so far this season. The new Gers recruit, Borna Barisic could be given a chance at left-back while James Tavernier takes up the right-back duties on the other side.
Both Ross McCrorie and Lee Hodson might find themselves on the bench for this Premiership encounter at the Fir Park Stadium. With Gerrard’s first-teamers in such great form, it would be difficult for them to break into the current first-team set up.
The Teddy Bears managed to keep a clean sheet at home versus FC Ufa in midweek so they would come into this contest full of confidence and ready to deny the Motherwell attack from scoring.
Midfield
The trio of Ovie Ejaria, Scott Arfield, and Ryan Jack could start in the middle of the field. Gerrard would hope that his midfielders can put on a solid performance to keep the Motherwell supporters quiet on Sunday. All three of them know their roles in Gerrard’s team and would be expected to carry out their responsibilities effectively this weekend.
Andy Halliday would be available on the bench and could come on during the match if required.
Attack
The Gers faithful could witness a new front three up top in new signing, Kyle Lafferty, Alfredo Morelos, and Ryan Kent, who could be tasked to lead the lines on Sunday. Morelos scored a hattrick last weekend away at Kilmarnock but failed to hit the target on Thursday night. Both Lafferty and Kent would be eager to make an impression against Motherwell so that they can feature more regularly in Gerrard’s first-team in the coming weeks.
