According to ESPN, as cited by the Express, Arsenal player-turned-pundit Paul Marriner has said that Manchester United are far from becoming what Arsenal have now become. He said that the Red Devils are the biggest club in the world and it will not be right to compare them with the Gunners.
The North London club had a miserable time in every competition in the last two seasons as they failed to qualify for the Champions League. Under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger, who left the club to put an end to his regime of 22 years in the last season, the club saw a huge downfall in results. This season as well, under their new manager Unai Emery, the Gunners have failed to impress and have lost both of their first two matches at the hands of Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
Manchester United have also not been able to get a good start to the current season as they succumbed to a heavy defeat by 3-2 at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion after winning their opening fixture against Leicester City. There have been rumours of feuds between the players and the manager and also with the board members, which has put the 13-time Premier League champions in a position of turmoil.
However, Marriner believes that the Red Devils are far from reaching the level that Arsenal have already hit. He said, “There’s been turmoil in the off-season with Manchester United,” he went on, “We all know Mourinho hasn’t had his World Cup players, but you’ve got to get on with it.
