According to Vital Football, Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are looking to keep hold of their midfield ace James Forrest this summer. The report states that the Scottish outfit is set to open talks with the player, who has only one year left on his contract, to tie him down with an extension.
The 27-year-old has been a vital cog in the club’s stellar performances over the last 18 months and has looked good on the pitch. He has made a number of useful contributions in the club’s domestic treble-winning season, in the last one and in the one before that as well.
This has interested Brendan Rodgers to make the player stay put at the club for longer. The player has looked good already this season, having scored twice in the three matches he has played for Celtic this season. He has also chipped in with five assists this season so far.
The Celtic gaffer was quoted saying, “In terms of James, he’s clearly a player we’d love to keep. He’s been outstanding in my time here, not just in games but in training too.
You can see how much he wants to improve and I think his best years are still ahead of him so I’m sure the club will be working with James representatives to tie him down to a longer deal.”

This shows that the manager rates him highly and has him in his plans for the next season already. The 27-year-old has been a fan favourite and it will surely go a long way for the Hoops to offer him a new long-term contract. The player has a lot of game time left in him and can play a very vital role for his team the next term.
