Chelsea have made a terrific start to their Premier League campaign after winning back to back games against Huddersfield Town and Arsenal. The Blues have scored three goals on both occasions which is one of the primary reasons why they would be confident about their chances of picking up maximum points from their upcoming league matches which, on paper, seems winnable.
Barkley Has Provided Moments Of Magic
Although, the likes of Eden Hazard, Pedro, Ngolo Kante and Marcos Alonso have taken most of the limelight, yet one player who has quietly done his job under Sarri and has provided some moments of magic has been Ross Barkley. He was the unsung hero for the Pensioners on both matches and performed his midfield duties immaculately while also providing a goal-scoring threat from a distance.
One of the highlights of Barkley’s brief career at Stamford Bridge so far came in the last game when he made a signature run behind the heart of the Gunners defence and launched a goal-bound shot which was heroically saved by Petr Cech. If he continues the same level of performance, then it’s only a matter of time before he scores his first goal in a Chelsea shirt.
His Everton Days Were Fruitful!
Barkley has proven in the past during his time with Everton that he can find the back of the net on a consistent basis from midfield. The Chelsea faithful will now hope that he can replicate a similar kind of goal-threat in Sarri’s starting XI as well.
The 24-year-old had featured in 179 matches for the Toffees, scoring 27 goals while grabbing 28 assists in all competitions. However, Barkley has still not registered a goal or an assist for his new club since making a switch to West London at the start of this year. Most of it is due to the lack of game time with just seven appearances for the Pensioners to his name as of yet.
If Barkley can overcome some of the injury concerns that have plagued him in the past, he can be a worthwhile asset for Sarri in his pursuit to lead the Blues of London into mounting a realistic title challenge.
Barkley Could Very Well Thrive Under Sarri
In Barkley, Sarri now has a midfield enforcer who can marshall the Chelsea midfield for years to come as Cesc Fabregas heads into the twilight years of his career. The English talent’s understanding with Jorginho and NGolo Kante has also caught the eye at the centre of the park. If the former Everton sensation can continue his rich vein of form, we can expect him to flourish under Sarri’s guidance and help the West Londoners make a title push this season.
