According to Sky Italy, as cited by Football.London, Arsenal have faced a huge setback in their pursuit of Swiss full-back Ricardo Rodriguez. The player has been on the Gunners’ radar for some time and now Unai Emery has to look elsewhere.
The 25-year-old left back was a part of the Switzerland squad which made it into the round of 16 in the FIFA World Cup at Russia. He currently plies his trade for AC Milan and the Serie A giants have made it clear that they will not let him leave under any circumstances as far as the current transfer window is concerned.
Rodriguez has attracted a number of potential suitors including Arsenal with his performance in the backline for his national team as well as for his club in the recent times. However, AC Milan have made sure that he is not leaving San Siro this summer and have not even let the player speak with the North London club.
Unai Emery is set to face a stern challenge at the start of the season, with two back to back matches in the Premier League against defending champions Manchester City and Chelsea within the span of a week. It will come as a big blow regarding his team composition as he might have to do without Nacho Monreal, though the player has returned to training after picking up an injury during the pre-season matches.

As per reports, Emery was interested in bringing the 25-year-old Swiss international to the Emirates stadium this summer as a backup for his Spanish full-back but now with Milan rejecting any chance of letting him leave, the former Paris Saint Germain manager will have to look for other options to fill in for Monreal.
